DIGITAL ART 101

AGES 8–17+ | 1-DAY WORKSHOP | 6:00–7:30 PM OR 3:00–4:30 PM

LEARN THE TOOLS. BUILD YOUR CONFIDENCE. START CREATING.

New to Procreate? This class is your starting point.

Digital Art 101 is designed for students who are ready to explore digital art but may not know where to begin. We’ll learn the essential tools and techniques in Procreate so students can navigate the app with confidence and have a strong foundation for future digital art classes at CURIO.

Students will learn how to:

• Navigate the Procreate interface and find the tools they need
• Create, resize, and set up a canvas
• Use selection tools to isolate and manipulate areas of an artwork
• Create and organize layers
• Combine, duplicate, and adjust layers
• Understand and use layer opacity and blend modes
• Explore brushes, brush settings, and different ways to create marks
• Use the Smudge tool and blending techniques
• Build and save color palettes
• Import photos and use them as part of an artwork
• Use reference images while creating
• Understand essential undo and redo tools and other helpful shortcuts
• Begin developing a digital workflow that makes creating in Procreate easier and more intuitive

Students will finish the workshop with a better understanding of how Procreate works, what its tools can do, and how to use them together to create their own artwork.

WHAT TO EXPECT

• A beginner-friendly introduction to Procreate
• Hands-on practice with the essential tools and features
• Guidance on how different tools work together
• Time to explore, experiment, and create
• A strong foundation for future digital art classes at CURIO
• Confidence navigating Procreate independently

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING

Students must bring their own iPad with Procreate already downloaded and a compatible stylus, such as an Apple Pencil.

Procreate is an iPad-only app and is not included with the class. It is currently a $12.99 one-time purchase through the Apple App Store — there is no monthly or recurring subscription fee.

Please download and open Procreate before arriving for class so we can spend our time creating rather than setting up devices.

IMPORTANT: Not all iPads are compatible with the current version of Procreate. Procreate currently requires iPadOS 16.3 or later, so please confirm that your device is compatible before registering.

PARENTS & GUARDIANS

This is an independent drop-off class, so parents and guardians do not need to stay. Drop off your artist, enjoy some time to yourself, and come back to see what they created!
