Drawing is more than putting a pencil to paper, it begins with learning how to truly see.

Drawing What You See is an introductory drawing class designed to help young artists strengthen their observation skills, understand what they see, and translate it into confident drawings. Students will build foundational drawing skills that can support them across many areas of artmaking, from painting and illustration to sculpture and beyond.

This is a focused, hands-on class for students who are ready to slow down, practice, and learn. No advanced drawing experience is required, but students should be comfortable listening to instruction, working independently, and staying engaged throughout the class.

Each session introduces new opportunities to observe, practice, and build upon essential drawing skills while helping students develop a stronger understanding of how artists see and interpret the world around them.

This is an independent class designed for students ages 12–17. Parents and guardians do not need to stay during class.

PLEASE NOTE: Each session is a new 3-week class. Students may participate in multiple sessions to continue developing their drawing skills, with new projects and exercises introduced each month.

MEET THE INSTRUCTOR

Meet Jason! With more than 30 years of experience as an artist and art educator, Jason brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm to the classroom. He believes great art education is about more than learning techniques—it’s about learning how to see, make connections, ask questions, and develop your own way of thinking as an artist. He loves challenging students to push their abilities while giving them the encouragement and guidance to take their work further.

As the co-owner of CURIO Art Studio and JL Shorr Gallery, Jason works every day to connect artists, artwork, and the community. His decades of experience teaching students, creating art, working with professional artists, and bringing new art experiences to our community give him a unique perspective to share with every artist who walks into his classroom.

At CURIO, Jason is excited to share that experience with the next generation of artists and help them discover not just what they can create, but how far they can take it.

CANCELLATION POLICY

All class tickets are nonrefundable. If your artist is unable to attend, you are welcome to transfer their spot to a friend or family member.

Due to limited seats, supplies, and instructor commitments, tickets cannot be transferred to another class.

Classes require a minimum of 4 artists to run. If CURIO must cancel a class, including due to low enrollment or instructor illness, participants may choose to transfer to another available class, receive a CURIO digital gift card, or receive a refund.

We do our best to avoid cancellations and will always communicate with families as soon as possible if a change is necessary.
