During this class, participants will have the unique opportunity to experience the thrill of working with a pottery wheel. Our experienced and friendly instructor will be there every step of the way, making sure everyone feels confident and excited to dive into the world of the pottery wheel. This class is designed for beginners that are looking to try the wheel for the first time or continue to hone their skills to become more experienced potters. This class is a fantastic opportunity to learn the art of wheel throwing and create your very own ceramic masterpiece. (Suggested for ages 12-16) 

Class Details:

Duration: 1.5 Hours (Includes instruction, wheel time, & clean-up)

Suitable For: Beginners, and intermediate potters

Cost: $48 per person

What's Included:

  • Expert Instruction: Our experienced pottery instructor will guide you through the entire process, from centering the clay to shaping your piece.
  • Clay: Each participant will be able to use an unlimited amount of clay to PRACTICE with but will only get to keep 1 (1.5lb) project
  • Tools and Materials: We provide all the necessary tools and materials for your pottery adventure.
  • Finished Piece: Each artist will be guaranteed ONE piece of pottery on the wheel during the class. We welcome you to make a few pieces throughout the evening then choose the best one to fire and glaze at a later date!

What to Expect: *PLEASE NOTE OUR STUDIO IS IN THE BASEMENT! ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL NEED TO GO UP AND DOWN STEPS FOR CLASS*

  1. Introduction: Class will begin with an introduction to the pottery wheel, clay, and basic techniques. No prior experience is necessary; our class is tailored for beginners.

  2. Hands-On Experience: You'll have the chance to sit down at the wheel and start shaping your clay under the expert guidance of our instructor. Feel the clay spin and transform beneath your fingertips as you try the wheel for the first time or are a seasoned potter bringing your creative vision to life.

  3. Create Your Masterpiece: During the class, you'll focus on practicing and creating one piece of pottery. For those more experienced you may choose to make a second piece, included in the cost of the class. 

  4. Finishing Touches: After shaping your pottery, you will leave your piece/pieces to dry for about 3-4 weeks. You will not take anything with you on the day of class. We will contact you once your pottery has been fired (which can take 3-4 weeks to allow time for the piece to dry completely before firing.

  5. Glazing and Firing: We'll provide glaze options and guidance for adding the final artistic touches to your piece. Pieces will be glazed the night of the class with simple & successful options. 

Additional Information:

  • Dress comfortably in clothes that you don't mind getting clay on.

  • Aprons and towels will be provided to protect your clothing.

  • All unused clay will be reclaimed to minimize waste and ensure sustainability.

Cancellation Policy for those that are unable to attend: 

If you are unable to attend the class, your ticket for that class/event is nonrefundable. We are happy to have you transfer your ticket to a friend or family member to attend the class in your place. Unfortunately, due to supplies, payment of instructors, and limited seats, we are not able to offer refunds or a transfer into another class. 

Cancellation Policy due to low enrollment of the class or instructor illness: 

To run our classes CURIO needs a minimum of 4 sign-ups. If CURIO should have to cancel the class for any reason including limited enrollment registered participants are able to:

1) Move their ticket to another open class or rescheduled class

2)  Receive a digital gift card

3)  Get a refund. We strive to avoid cancellations but promise a fair process in unforeseen circumstances should CURIO be the one canceling!
